What it does

A double output holder drives two outputs from one turret station, so a single station covers two tool orientations. Available as a 90° double output and as a 90° double output retracted version, where the output is pulled back into the body to clear a chuck, tailstock or sub-spindle that a standard head would foul.

Reach and clearance decide this choice as much as the cut does. A holder that collides is no use however well it cuts.
