A right-angle head turns the spindle output through 90° so a machining centre can cut features that face sideways — cross holes, side pockets, edge threads, back-facing operations — without re-fixturing the part or moving it to a second machine. On a 3-axis machine it removes an entire setup; on a 5-axis machine it reaches into positions the head cannot tilt to.
Typical work: cross drilling and tapping, side milling, slotting on vertical faces, deep-cavity work where a standard holder cannot clear, and operations behind or under the part.
