What it does

Thread whirling cuts a thread with a ring of inserts orbiting the workpiece rather than a single point tracking along it. The thread is produced in one pass, chips are short and clear themselves, and because the cutting forces are largely radial and balanced, long slender parts do not get pushed away from the tool.

That is why whirling dominates bone screws and medical implants, worm shafts and lead screws — deep threads on slender parts where single-point turning would deflect the workpiece or need many passes.
