The driven spindle points at 90° to the lathe spindle, along the X axis. This is the configuration for cross drilling, cross tapping and slotting on the outside diameter.
External coolant. Coolant is delivered to the cut from outside nozzles. Suitable for general drilling, tapping and milling where chip evacuation is not the limiting factor.
Gear ratio 1:1 — tool spindle speed equals turret drive speed. The direct relationship makes speeds and feeds straightforward to calculate from the machine's live-tool rating.

Because BMT is an industry de-facto standard rather than an ISO or DIN published standard, bolt circle, key position and drive coupling can differ between machine builders even at the same nominal size.
