A static holder clamps a turning tool or boring bar rigidly in the turret — nothing rotates in the holder itself, the workpiece does the turning. A driven (live) holder takes rotary drive from the turret so a drill or end mill can turn while the spindle is stopped. Most turrets carry a mix: static holders for the turning work, driven holders for the milling, drilling and tapping.
BMT is an industry de-facto standard, not published by ISO or DIN. Two turrets both labelled BMT45 can differ in bolt circle and key position, so the label alone is not enough. Send the machine model and a photograph of the turret face and Mongtec engineering checks it against the actual turret drawing before quoting. That check is free.
