What a block does

A tool block carries a conventional square-shank turning tool and presents it to the machine on an HSK-T taper. The tool itself stays whatever the shop already buys — a standard 25×25 external holder, a boring bar, a parting blade — while the block gives it the taper-and-face location and the automatic clamping of an HSK-T station.

That is the cheapest route onto an HSK-T machine. Rather than replacing a whole tool crib with integral HSK-T turning holders, a shop buys blocks for the shank sizes it runs and keeps its existing tooling. The trade is rigidity: an integral holder has one joint to the spindle, a block has two.

Check the block's clamping height against your tool. A block is cut for one nominal square-shank size; a 25×25 tool will not clamp correctly in a 20×20 seat and shimming a smaller shank up to a larger seat costs the rigidity the block exists to provide.
