Live tooling brands by machine: which driven tool holders fit Mazak, DMG MORI, Haas, Okuma, Doosan and other CNC lathes

A driven (live) tool holder does not fit a brand of lathe — it fits a turret interface. This guide lists, builder by builder, the turret interfaces used on the lathes most often asked about, and which tooling brands publish holders for them, so you can shortlist suppliers before you ask for a quotation. Brand names are used only to identify machine compatibility; all trademarks belong to their owners.

Four interface families you will meet

Builder by builder

Turret interfaces are taken from Mongtec’s TOOL HOLDER SELECTION GUIDE and from builders’ published machine data; the “brands publishing holders” column lists suppliers whose public catalogues or websites named these machines or interfaces when checked in September 2026 (alphabetical, not exhaustive). Always confirm the fitted turret from a photo of the turret face — the same model ships with different turrets.

How to read a tooling brand’s compatibility list

  1. Match the interface, not the logo. A list that says “for Haas” usually means “for the BMT65 turret fitted to Haas Y-axis lathes”. The same holder fits nothing else on a BOT-turret ST-20.
  2. Check the station count and the suffix. DMG MORI NLX 2500: 12 stations = BMT60, 20 stations = BMT40. Hardinge H51: 12 stations = BMT55, 16 stations = BMT45. Okuma GENOS L300 M = VDI40, L300 MW/MYW = 65×73 mm BMT pattern.
  3. Treat builder-specific BMT as its own interface. Nakamura-Tome BMT44/45/55/65 and Mazak BMT68 are not the catalogue BMT of the same nominal size. Ask the supplier whether the holder is built to that builder’s drawing.
  4. Send a photo of the turret face with the enquiry. Every serious supplier will confirm the mounting from it before quoting; it is the single step that prevents a holder arriving that does not bolt on.

Where Mongtec fits

Mongtec Precision is a Taiwanese brand headquartered in Taichung. It publishes 228 driven tool holder article numbers for BMT45–BMT85 and VDI16–VDI60 with collet, ratio, speed and torque on this site, static turret tooling for BMT40–BMT75 and BOT patterns, a dedicated NL/NLX-series catalogue for DMG MORI, and builds BMT40/60/68/80 and builder-specific interfaces (Mazak, Nakamura-Tome, Haas BOT, Okuma BOT, Muratec BOT) to the turret drawing. If you run another brand’s holder today, the cross-reference pages show which Mongtec article numbers share the same interface and output; Mongtec engineering confirms the equivalent from your part number and a turret photo. Mongtec does not distribute the other brands named on this page.

Frequently asked questions

Which live tooling brands fit a Haas ST-20Y?

The ST-20Y uses a BMT65 turret. Brands that publish BMT65 holders for Haas include Benz and Eppinger (sold through Haas Tooling), Heimatec, Lyndex-Nikken, Mongtec and Redline Tools. A base ST-20 without the Y axis has a BOT turret and takes static blocks only.

Which turret does a DMG MORI NLX 2500 have?

Mongtec’s selection guide lists the NL/NLX 1500–3000 under BMT60 for 12-station turrets and BMT40 for 20-station turrets. Some machine data also reports a VDI40 Trifix build; confirm from the turret face before ordering.

Are BMT holders interchangeable between brands?

Within one builder’s turret, yes — any brand’s BMT65 holder built for the Haas BMT65 turret fits that turret. Across builders, no: BMT is not a published standard, so “BMT55” for a Doosan Puma and “BMT55” for a Nakamura-Tome are different mountings.

Can I replace an Eppinger, WTO or Heimatec holder with a Mongtec holder?

If the turret interface and the output (axial or radial, collet size) match, Mongtec supplies an equivalent article number; send the existing part number with the machine model and Mongtec engineering confirms it. See the cross-reference pages for Eppinger, WTO and Heimatec.

What information does a supplier need to quote?

Machine builder and model, turret designation and station count, a photo of the turret face or the turret drawing, the holder orientation (axial or radial) and clamping size (for example ER32), and the quantity. A drawing or part number of the holder you are replacing works just as well.
